Varicose veins are a disease of the veins, which results in an increase in their size, a change in shape and a decrease in their elasticity. The superficial veins of the lower limbs, the venous plexus of the rectum, the veins of the portal system and the spermatic cord are mainly affected.
The development of varicose veins is facilitated by difficulties in the outflow of blood through the venous system during a systematic prolonged stay on the legs associated with professional activities, compression of the pelvic veins by the uterus during pregnancy, congestion ofpelvic veins, for example, with systematic constipation, sedentary work, etc.
Sitting slows circulation and stagnates blood. Long periods of inactivity and sitting can destroy the hearts of people who sit for a long time, deep vein thrombosis of the calf can develop. It is harmful to sit cross-legged, because you can press on the popliteal artery, which will cause congestion of the veins.
Clothing and shoes should not be tight as this can also slow blood flow. Walking on grass, dirt, or just barefoot around the house improves circulation and strengthens the heart. Congenital weakness of the venous wall and insufficiency of the venous valves predispose to the disease. Ulcers can develop over time due to malnutrition with blood.
One of the first symptoms of the disease is a feeling of heaviness in the legs, dull or sharp pains and night cramps. If left untreated, varicose veins become hard and dense over time, and ulcers and bleeding often appear on the legs.
Varicose veins that form in the scrotum are called varicocele (varicose veins of the spermatic cord). If they appear in the rectum, they are called hemorrhoids.
Phlebitis (inflammation of the veins), varicose ulcers, severe itching, discoloration of the skin (which often turns copper-red) are common complications of this condition. But only a small percentage of those with varicose veins develop varicose ulcers. People with varicose veins are thought to have weak-walled congenital veins.
But the weakness of the vascular walls is most likely the result of poor nutrition, toxemia, innervation (lowered nervous state) and lack of exercise. In most cases, when varicose veins form during pregnancy, they disappear after delivery. With the help of sufficiently active physical exercises, varicose veins that appeared during pregnancy can be eliminated even when the woman is in position.
Unsuccessful surgery to remove or drain the veins Using elastic stockings or bandages to support the veins is only a half measure and ultimately leads to such weakening of the tissues that the condition becomes chronic or much more difficult to treat.
